Three years of missing Komikon and now I am back. :D Summer Komikon 2016 held last April 16 at Bayanihan Center brought a bit of nostalgic feeling. I may not be as enthusiastic as before but it was really great seeing familiar comic titles as well as their creators. And the first title I grabbed, which I really could not resist, was Crime-Fighting Call Center Agents by Noel Pascual and AJ Bernardo. I had to grab issues 4-6. I could not leave the halls of Bayanihan Center without having these three issues.
I was not sure if I really wanted to write about Mythspace, but I wanted to document the steps I take in going back to comics. So after going through Stories from the Diabolical (back to comics #1) from the Trese series by Budjette and Kajo, I had Mythspace (Chikiamco, et al) next in my list.
I had a copy of Lift Off (Chikiamco and Carreon) and Uncommon Ground (Chikiamco and Dimagiba), which I got from Komikon 2013. I remember back then that my comics buddies were so excited about it that was why I decided to grab a copy as well to see what they had been enthusiastic about. After one and a half years, I finally set my eyes inside the pages of Mythspace.
Before plunging into the last installment of Lyndon Gregorio's first graphic novel, Go-Beerkada: Revenge of the Jhologs, I had to reread the first part, Rise of the Jhologs, in order to refresh my memory of the plot. It was amazing flipping again through the pages of the first book and be faced with the idea of aliens coming out of the portals along the pacific rim. It reminded me of the Pacific Rim movie showed just this year; Rise of the Jhologs was released back in 2009. This just made me smile. Ooh. :)
Summer Komikon 2013 came and I had no idea which titles/issues were out. I waltzed through the entrance of the hall and swiped through my phone to call my buddies. As I held my phone pressed to my ear and tiptoed hoping I would see the heads of the people I was looking for, I glanced at something on my left that I was not prepared to see. Ooh, the second issue of Hipon Gamay is out! For real? How clueless had I been for the past few months. Gaaah! I needed to grab a copy of this.
Ohmygosh! I just read the 5th issue of Kanto Inc. and they included my review in the blurb. Haha. Na-excite and natuwa naman ako. Heehee. :) What's more funny is that out of all the reviews they included, sa'kin 'yung pinakabarubal. LOL
Summer Komikon 2013. 13 April 2013. Unilab Bayanihan Center, Pasig.
I was not prepared for this year's Summer Komikon. I remember putting the event on my calendar around Jan/Feb and was excited for it, but came March and April, it was washed away from my mind, until one of my comics buddies reminded me about it a week before the event. Oh yeah, it was that time of the year again. I was not prepared. I had no idea which titles were coming out. Worse, I might not even be able to come to the event. I had an exam on that day and I did not know what other errands I could have for my mom.
