Image from Skyworld

It’s been almost a decade since I first read the first book of Skyworld, and from that moment on, I have been a fan of Mervin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria.

And how else can things get more nostalgic and exciting than Skyworld releasing a new issue after five long unexpected years. Yep, they just released Skyworld: Dominion last Independence Day. And all I can say is, wala paring kupas.

Having the local comics personalities I adore all working together in Denmark, Mervin, Ian, and Budjette, bringing Skyworld back to life…sniff…this brings happy tears to my eyes. Haha. Haven’t felt this way for quite some time since I stopped going to Komikons.

Ang saya lang…also how they concluded in Dominion the end of Rianka’s rule, calling back Filipinos to their homeland. That’s my most favorite panel, the scene in the airport.

So, I guess I’m back to how I was eight years ago, looking forward again to the next issues of Skyworld, what will become of little Luna and Sinag, and when will I see Makabo back in action again. 😊

Been to the 33rd Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) this last Sunday, September 16, 2012, with my best friend and a college orgmate (my comics buddy!), and also bumped into my sister during the event.

My primary purpose for going to the event is to FINALLY have my Trese copies signed by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. I never got any of it signed since I do not bring them to Komikon events and I buy copies from bookstores, so yey, there goes my signed copies.

Every legend hides a lie.

The four-part local comic book that I'd been anticipating every Komikon had finally come to an end. "Skyworld" by Mervin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria spearheaded my every Komikon agenda. Now, it is a cross mark, a significant bullet point in the comics side of my life, a brush tip that'll paint me a smile every time I think of local komiks.

The taste of a goodbye kiss from the person you thought you would have loved forever, that was how it was like upon finishing the last panel of the fourth and last book, "Requiem".

Summer Komikon 2012! Yey!

I've gotten tired of attending anime conventions already, but am still enjoying attending comics convention. And this year's Summer Komikon is the Komikon I enjoyed the most.

Usually, I'll only be around Komikon for about an hour or so, just really buying comics. But this time I lasted for hours. Komiks kuwentuhan with kuya RB and ArjohnROCKER really did it. And the most fun part of all was that we didn't agree on a plan to meet up in Komikon; we never do; we just always bump into each other during the event.

Just about a week ago, I dropped by the Summer Komikon in UP Bahay ng Alumni and grabbed a copy of some Filipino indie comics, and the number one in my list was the 12-page prologue of the third book of Skyworld, Prodigal, a comic series created by Mervin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria.

For the recently held Komikon 2009 in UP Bahay ng Alumni last 16 May 2009, I gravely felt the rapid flow of money out of my wallet, and comics with wonderful covers that were able to catch my attention were most often than not were the ones successful in doing the trick. One of them was Skyworld: Apocrypha, created by Mervin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria.

The plot is that of the usual ones of today’s emerging local comics, that is, having to do with Philippine mythology, but do not get me wrong; I found the crafting of the plot of Skyworld a good one. There are only few dialogues and the story is formed mostly with just simple but creative lines of narration; however, the organization and delivery are impressing leaving the reader with satisfaction [well, that is for my case].
